The IPC displays the A/C OFF FOR ENGINE PROTECTION message when requested by a class 2 message from the ACM. The ACM sends the request when DTC B1350 is set current. For diagnosis, refer to Electronic Climate Control.
APPLY BRAKE TO SHIFT

The brake transaxle shift interlock (BTSI) system requires that you press the brake pedal in order to move the gear selector from the PARK position. The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the BTSI switch and the park neutral position (PNP) switch. The PCM sends the position of the 2 switches to the IPC through a class 2 serial data line. If the gear selector is in PARK and the brake pedal is not pressed, the IPC displays this message.

Once this message displays, the message continues to display until one of the following actions is completed:

* You apply the brake.
* You press the INFORMATION (digital) button.
* You press the INFO (analog) button.
* You press the INFO RESET (analog) button.
* You press the RESET (digital) button.

The message has a minimum display time of 3 seconds regardless of the brake position.

You may cancel the APPLY BRAKE TO SHIFT message by pressing the OFF and cooler (blue) buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. Once you cancel the message, you can bring it back with the same procedure.
BATTERY NOT CHARGING

The IPC monitors the alternator L terminal input on IPC connector C1 terminal A9. The IPC uses the input in order to determine when to set IPC DTC B1911 current. The IPC uses this input when the L terminal is low and the engine runs over 600 RPM for more than 2 seconds. If the alternator is not charging, the L terminal input is low (ground). If the alternator is charging, the L terminal input is at the ignition voltage. When DTC B1911 is set current, the IPC displays the message and illuminates the battery indicator.

The IPC detects this ground as less than 1 volt. If the circuit remains at ground for at least 1 second, the IPC completes the following actions:

* The IPC displays the CHECK BRAKE FLUID message.
* The IPC sends a class 2 message to the EBTCM.
* The IPC illuminates the Brake indicator.

CHECK COOLANT LEVEL

The IPC monitors the engine coolant level through the engine coolant level switch. If the IPC detects ground at IPC connector C2 terminal A10, the IPC displays the CHECK COOLANT LEVEL message after filtering for vehicle speed and acceleration. The IPC sends the information to other modules through a class 2 serial data line.
CHECK FUEL GAUGE

The CHECK FUEL GAUGE message displays if the fuel level goes below 15 liters (4 gallons) while in the display off mode only. The display of the CHECK FUEL GAUGE message cancels the display off mode. The driver may acknowledge the message or it acknowledges itself if the fuel level goes above 15 liters (4 gallons). The PZM sends the fuel level information to the IPC through a class 2 serial data line message.
CHECK GAS CAP

The PCM displays the CHECK GAS CAP message when class 2 serial data is sent to the IPC. The class 2 serial data is sent to the IPC when a leak is initially detected in the evaporative emission system. The detection in a subsequent ignition cycle results in the PCM activating the SES telltale.
